Activities in Gammel Rye and in the local area
Gl. Rye is a small cozy village close to Himmelbjerget - about 10 min. drive away. The village has rougly 1400 inhabitants and is part of Skanderborg municipality. Gammel Rye has been influenced by the old time’s powercentre and monasteries. Several coronals of many kings has taken place in Gl. Rye church. Sct. Søren’s Church has an exciting history as an old church for pilgrimage. Øm Monastery Museum is only a five minute drive away. If you like antiques etc., we recommend a visit to Gl. Rye Antique Shop just down the road from us.
Gl. Rye Mill lies on a hilltop from where there is a fantastic view over the forests and the hills of heather. There are also several hiking paths in the area, starting at the museum. Put on your hiking boots and go for a walk in the protected heather hills which is Lyng Dal Hotel & Restaurant’s closes activity. There are other museums close by, for example Museum Silkeborg where you can see Grauballemanden or you can go see Asger Jorn’s paintings at Museum Jorn. Silkeborg is a cozy town for shopping and has a large pedestrian area in the middle of the town. It takes about 20 min. in car from Lyng Dal Hotel & Restaurant.
Of other activities in the area that we can mention are golf, sailing on the lakes and horseriding. You can find more information on www.visitskanderborg.dk or visit Ry Turistinformation if you are going to visit beautiful Ry anyway.
